L.J. Hooker Wainuiomata Junior Rugby Club
Report - 2002.
This year’s registrations
attracted 240 players to our Club. We provided 17 teams (one more
than 2001) from under 6 to under 13.
On the normal Saturday
morning rugby scene our juniors had an excellent season, playing 14
games from 19 possible. We had representative games against Northern
United and Upper Hutt and unfortunately we lost these competitions.
On the positive side we travelled to Napier Technical Old Boys and
retained the cup. Both players and supporters enjoyed this trip. Our
under 6 The $2 Shop team also won the Ray Green under 6 tournament.
In the clash of the codes game our Under 13 team beat their league
counterparts in a great display of union and league.
Other highlights for the season
include:
Wainuiomata local business sponsors for all teams.
Primary Schools rugby tournament where all six teams entered
performed with distinction.
The Under 11 ETA N.P.C. day which our Under 11 team really enjoyed.
The Under 7 The $2 Shop playing at the Westpac Trust Stadium.
The Under 8 C. Firmin Transport team playing at the Westpac Trust
Stadium.
Planning for the 2003 season
has already started and our goals include:
Continue to improve the playing jerseys and equipment for the
players.
Actively market the game of rugby union in Wainuiomata to obtain
more players.
Appoint a manager for all teams.
Establish a front row club in Wainuiomata.
Continue to provide professional development opportunities for
coaches.
Have senior club players as mentors for all junior teams.
Run an under 11, 12 and 13 training camp before the season starts.
This report cannot be complete
without a sincere thank you to all our Club sponsors, our Senior
Club Management Committee, our Referees, Coaches/Managers and their
Partners. A big thanks you to our Junior Supporters Club who do a
great job, and of course, to all our players.
